by admin on Nov.04, 2008, under Writing

No on Prop 8

by admin on Nov.04, 2008, under Words

Dear friends

Most of you are Asians and being an immigrant has special meaning to you. United States holds a number of honorable ideals.

One being everyone are equal under law. There is no second class citizen here in America. That is the promise. Though the promise is often no delivered. The Chinese Exclusion Act http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chinese_Exclusion_Act_(United_States) is
an example. In 1882, Chinese men are not allow to united with their wives. Whenever a majority takes away rights from a minority group, that is treating the minority as second class citizen. Or when minority group is treated differently from a majority group, that is discrimination. Proc 8 does this. It forces our government to treat gay and lesbian couples differently.

A Chinese woman came up to me the other day just before I enter a Chinese super market. She tried to pass me a flyer pro Proc 8. Needless to say, I was disturbed. As an immigrate living in the bay area, I had encountered my share of racism. A majority bullying a minority. Is it our turn as immigrate Chinese or Asian to bully a minority group now? This is completely unacceptable.

The Civil Rights movement gave us (color people) equality to the whites. It was possible became our nation claim “all men are created equal”. Proc 8 goes against the grain of the American sprite. I urge you to vote NO on Prop 8 and spread the word against it.

Jesus preached love for all man kind and I believe god made men intrinsically moral. He gave each of us a bible before we were born. So, I claim don’t leave your internal bible out before voting on this issue.

Any complain address directly to me please

Thanks

Screening event tonight: Searching for Lin Zhao’s Soul

by admin on Aug.30, 2008, under Words

Today at 6:00 PM, we showed the film to about 30 audiences, not bad for a Friday evening documentary, especially when the film is not widely known. It’s days like this make me feel that I have the best job in the world. From knowing about Linzhao to reading about Philip Pan’s books and to actually showing the film, all seemed a little bit surreal. I was amazed by how quickly we mobilized the peer organizations to present the film in such a short time. Gwen is truly our super woman.

One audience came to me and said, “this film should be on TV, people should know about her”. I also saw audience came out of the screening room with tear in their eyes.

“How did you get through that?” this is not just a question for an individual, it is also a question to a nation. (Zhang Yihe)

About this screening event:

C4 is proud to present the US Premier Searching for Lin Zhao’s Soul, AKA In Search of Lin Zhao’s Soul (2004) in Mandarin with English subtitles.

This documentary film is about the outstanding Beijing University student Lin Zhao, who was labeled a rightist when she criticized the Anti-Rightist Campaign in 1950s. She was imprisoned and later executed. In Philip Pan’s recent book “Out of Mao’s Shadow”, two chapters were written about this documentary, quoting the filmmaker Hu Jie about Lin Zhao: “(the film is) inspired by her courage, and her uncompromising sense of justice … It was extraordinary that a great woman like Lin Zhao once lived in China… I thought she was a national treasure.”

This film is co-presented by World Affairs Councils (WACSF), Asian American Women Artists Association (AAWAA), International Museum of Women (IMOW), Oakland Asian Cultural Center (OACC), Center for Chinese Studies (CCS) in UC Berkeley.
